Mr. John Davis has 15 years of teaching experience in music education, having held positions in band, chorus and orchestra at Sandia H.S. (

School of the Arts (
Tampa ); and most recently at Dr. Earl J. Lennard H.S. (Ruskin). Originally from
Pennsylvania , Mr. Davis is a graduate of
Boyertown
Area
Senior High School . He is also a 1993 graduate of
Penn
State
University with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. In 2005, Mr. Davis completed a Master of Music Degree in Wind Conducting at
James
Madison
University , graduating with a 3.983 GPA.
Mr. Davis’ programs have twice been named Florida Music Demonstration Schools (Seminole HS – 1998; and Flanagan HS – 2003) while earning consistent
Superior ratings at District and State MPA events. Mr. Davis’ bands at Seminole and Flanagan have been honored as FMBC Class AAAA State Runner-up; Bands of Regional Finalists and Grand National Semi-finalists; National Concert Band Festival Honor Band; WGI Scholastic Open and World Class Finalist; and recipient of the Otto J. Krashar Award 5 times in 5 attempts. Mr. Davis’ program at
Flanagan
High School was named a
Grammy
Signature
School and Grammy Award winner in 2002 by the NARAS Foundation – an award granted to only 2 of the nations high schools that year. The year 2002 also saw
Davis selected by the Broward County Department of Cultural Affairs as the “Arts Teacher of the Year”.
In the area of scholarship and performance, Mr. Davis has distinguished himself as a leading scholar on music for band by Brazilian Composer Hector Villa-Lobos. In 2005, Mr. Davis was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda, the International Music Scholar Honor Society. Locally, he performs as a member of the Master Chorale of
Tampa
Bay and the Richard Zielinski Singers.
Davis is also a past member of the Florida Philharmonic Chorus and the Coral Gables Vocal Ensemble. He has toured nationally and internationally as a performer, including concert engagements in in 2006 with “Jubilate” – a jazz vocal ensemble from
Miami .
Davis is in demand locally and nationally as a professional piano accompanist, trombonist, conductor, arranger, and adjudicator.
Mr. Davis is a past marching member of the 9-time DCI World Champion Cades Drum and Bugle Corps (1989-1990) and served on the brass staff for the Cadets from 1993-1995. He also served on the brass staff for the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps from
Toledo, Ohio from 2004-2006.
Davis plans to obtain his National Board Certification and Ph.D. in Music Education in the near future while maintaining his position at Riverview H.S. He hopes to build a large, comprehensive instrumental music program that received local and national attention through
Superior performances at festivals and competitions in orchestra, concert band, jazz band, marching band, color guard, and drumline venues. It is also a professional goal to strive to meet the high standards of a
