QUOTE OF THE MONTH

Band News/Events 8/2/10

1. I hope everyone has been enjoying your summer vacation. It sure is going fast. Marching band practice starts this week so I know the start of another school year is not far off.

Please take time during August to continue practicing 4 or 5 days a week. If you have tken time off in June and July, now is a great time to start getting back in shape for September. Work on some slow long tones to help get your embouchure strength back. Spend some time on scales going very slow for smooth finger connections and gradually go faster. Use different articulations to keep your tonguing flexible. Practice and review lessons from the method book you used last year in school. Purchase some new music from Motter's or Music Gallery that looks fun to play. Maybe some pop music or movie theme music.

Most of all, please make sure your instrument is working properly for September. If it has not been looked at by a professional repairman in a while, August is a great time. It can be frustrating if you come to school in September excited and ready to play only to find out your instrument is not working.

Enjoy the remainder of summer and I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in September.

2. Please check under each grade level for letters that were or are going to be sent home. (late May or early June)
