CANFIELD LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

 

The Canfield Local School District, centrally located between Pittsburgh and Cleveland is found in Northeast Ohio. This system serves over 3,100 students in the suburban community. The Canfield Local School District has enjoyed a strong reputation of providing quality academic and extracurricular programs. The Canfield Local School District, through community support, has taken the lead in providing students access to the most up-to-date technology. Students engaged in music, art, industrial arts, multimedia, and communication courses, as well as regular core subject offerings enjoy the use of telecommunication labs, video conferencing labs, and classroom computers to enhance their learning.

We are excited to share these learning opportunities with our students. Our schools include community members in many lifelong learning activities such as evening computer courses, use of video conference interdistance learning labs, and supporting the Canfield Community Band.

The Canfield Instrumental Music Department has an enrollment of 598 students in grades 5 through 12. Band begins in the fifth grade with full band meeting twice a week and three days of sectionals/gym for forty minutes. The sixth grade band meets twice a week in full band and three days sectionals/gym. There is a seventh-eighth grade concert band and a seventh-eighth grade symphonic band that meet daily for forty minutes. In addition, each seventh and eighth grade student receives one forty minute group lesson per week.

The Canfield Bands perform four major concerts per year including a Fall Concert,  the Holiday Concert, the Band Parents’ Pasta Dinner, and the Spring Concert. Additional performances vary from year to year. The seventh and eighth grade students participate in the OMEA Solo and Ensemble and Large Group Adjudicated Events each year. Ensembles meet after school once a week for twenty minutes. The Canfield Village Middle School Jazz Band performed at the OMEA State Conference in 1998. The Canfield Village Middle School Seventh-Eighth Grade Symphonic Band performed at The University of Akron’s OBDC Conference also in 1998. In 2000, the Canfield Village Middle School Sixth Grade Symphonic Band performed at the OMEA State Conference. Also in 2001, the Seventh-Eighth Grade Symphonic Band performed in Washington D.C. for the Festival of the States. In 2004 The Seventh and Eighth Grade Symphonic Band performed at the OMEA State Conference and at the 33^rd Annual Ohio Band Directors Conference at The University of Akron.  In 2005, the Seventh and Eighth Grade Symphonic Band performed at the OMEA North Coast State Conference in Cleveland.
