Canfield Village Middle School Bands

Grades 5,6,7 & 8

 

Supplies needed for band/sectional/study hall:

1. ALL students must have their instruments in band each day.  ALL students must have their name clearly labeled on their case.  This includes 4 working reeds for clarinet and saxophone players. Two good reeds for oboe and bassoon players. Valve oil and slide grease for brass players. Percussion kits with stick bag (sticks & mallets).

2. ALL students must have their music in band each day.  ALL students must have their name clearly marked on each method book and binder.  This includes sheet music, handouts and sectional books. Students MUST provide their own hard cover 1 ½ inch 3 ring binder for all handouts. The binder must include a minimum of 20 clear sheet protectors. More sheets may be needed during the school year.

3. Students must have a pencil in band each day.

4. Grades 7/8. When you are assigned a study hall day, you must bring with you work to do. There will be NO passes to your locker. Come to class prepared.

5. Grade 5 - Method book used is Ed Sueta Band Method Book 1.

Grade 6 - Method book used is Standard of Excellence Book 1 from 5th grade. Parents will be notified via the web page when it is time to purchase Ed Sueta Band Method Book 2. 6th Graders also need Skill Builders Book 1 and a metronome that will be used at school and at home for daily practice. Skill Builders and metronome must be in school by October 1.  Suggested metronome brand is Quik-Time.

Grade 7/8 - Both Symphonic and Concert Bands will need  to start the school year. Parents will be notified via the web when it is time to purchase a new method book. ALL 7 th and 8 th graders must have a metronome from 6 th grade and must purchase a tuner. Tuners and metronomes must be in school starting October 1.  Suggested tuner brand is Korg CA-30.
