Jerome High School is located in Jerome, Idaho, the county seat of Jerome County, in south-central Idaho just north of Twin Falls. The Jerome School District consists of six public schools in grades K-12, including three elementary schools, a middle school, and an alternative school. Jerome High School competes in the "4A" division in the Idaho High School Activities Association, with a student body of just under one thousand students in grades 9-12.
The Jerome High School Band program is a three-legged stool with a balance of marching, symphonic, and pep band performances (including our fine color guard program). In addition, there are three feeder bands in the middle school: the Concert (8th grade), Intermediate (7th grade), and Beginning Bands (6th grade), each of which is the largest in District IV. There is also a guitar program at JHS, JMS, and Summit Elementary School.
The director of bands in the
Jerome
School District is Gordon P. Smith. He is in his sixth year in Jerome and his twenty-eighth of teaching band, having taught in California for eight years before beginning his
Idaho career in 1992. He has been president of the Idaho District IV Music Educators Association as well as the District III MEA, director of the Magic Valley Regional Marching Band, co-chairman of the District IV Middle School Large Ensemble Festival, the Idaho District III – Oregon District IX Large Ensemble Music Festival, the District III Middle School Music Festival, and the Snake River Band Festival; a state board member of the Idaho Music Educators Association, and a member of the Music Educators National Conference since 1984. His compositions, arrangements, and marching drills have been performed by school bands (and the Dallas Brass) throughout the western United States over the past thirty years. "School Band And Orchestra" magazine recognized him in its December 2008 issue as one of the "50 Directors Who Make A Difference" representing the state of Idaho.
