Middle School Bands

FINAL EXAMS) Remember, get both of your interviews done (the composer interview you should have completed two weeks ago, and the artist you’re writing about now) so you have your information prepared for your trimester written project where the two are to meet! If you haven’t done the research for your two musicians, you will NOT be allowed to put together the final exam project. (How could you? You wouldn’t know what to write!) High school and eighth graders, don’t forget your You Tube project is due on Feb. 10th!

·         DISTRICT IV SOLO-ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL) If students are interested in performing a solo, duet, or small group piece for adjudication on Tuesday, March 6th in Twin Falls (during the school day), they need to select a piece (I can help with this) and get their entry fee of ten dollars per person in to Mr. Smith (cash or check to “Jerome Music Boosters” – they’ll write one check) NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10th.

·         ENSEMBLE CONCERT) The 6th and 7th grade bands will next perform on Tuesday, March 6th, in the JMS cafetorium starting at 7 p.m. (performers arrive by 6:30). Each section will perform an ensemble piece, and both bands will perform separately as well. Students who are taking a piece to District solo-ensemble festival are encouraged to perform it on this evening as well.

·         THE 6TH ANNUAL JHS EVENING OF FINE ARTS) …takes place on Tuesday, March 13th at the high school. It will feature both the high school and the 8th grade bands, and will be similar to the Ensemble Concert above. Solos and duets are strongly encouraged, especially if you’re going to the D4 solo-ensemble festival the previous week. The event will include performances from the choral and drama departments as well – more details as we get closer.

·         COMPOSITION PROJECTS START IN APRIL!) Right after our Spring Concert on April 9th, in fact – that’s your third term EOC, including creating it, playing it, and journaling about it.

·         OUR ANNUAL “WAHOOZ!” TRIP COMES UP SOON!) Set your calendar for Friday, April 20th (not a school day), when our yearly band trip to Meridian for go-karts, mini-golf, laser tag, massive arcade, batting cages, pizza, and roller coaster simulator comes around! The cost (including bussing) looks like it will run thirty dollars again, deadline April 17th, and we’re planning on a noon departure and 8 p.m. return.

·         “EMPIRE AND REBELLION” IS COMING!) There is information attached about our 2012 JHS Ambush of Tigers field show, the revolutionary “Empire and Rebellion” spectacle we’ve been working on all winter. If you’re going to be in grades eight through twelve this fall, WE WANT YOU TO BE A PART OF IT! I’m intending to have parts ready, as well as a rough draft of the drill and choreography, by the end of February for y’all. Please read through the hand-out provided and climb on board – it’s going to be a phenomenal ride!

·         THE PORTLAND ROSE PARADE IS ALMOST HERE!) Also attached is our latest information on the Portland Rose Parade, the biggest event in Jerome Band history! It’ll be a four or five day trip to perform in the largest parade in the Northwest, televised on FOX regionally, and it’s open to all Ambush members who will be entering grades eight through twelve (as well as May graduates), especially if you marched last fall or will march this fall. The trip is currently scheduled for June 7-10, but it’s possible we may extend the trip by a day if the Rose Parade committee really does procure extra performances for us as they’ve suggested they might! We’ll have kids from the Wendell and Minico bands marching with us as well – it’s going to be a phenomenal trip! COME JOIN US!
