Pep Band 2011-2012
Now that the outdoor season is approaching an end, it’s time for us to get ready to start rocking the INDOOR season! Beyond the Indoor Marching Extravaganza on Monday, November 14th, and the start of Symphonic Band season in November as well, we’re starting our formal preparations for PEP BAND season at the same time! Here are the plans and guidelines for the group named Top Pep Band In The State by idahosports.com in 2009:
Ø All current Ambush members and other high school band instrumental musicians are invited to be members.
Ø Starting December 1st (the first Thursday of second trimester), the Pep Band rehearses during zero hour (6:30-7:40). This is the ONLY weekly extra rehearsal for the JHS band during second and third terms. (No more Monday afternoon or Wednesday morning practices after Thanksgiving.) ALL current members are expected to attend these Thursday morning rehearsals, regardless of whether they are in the first period class or not. (Unfortunately, we do not have the extra course credit available for these zero hours as we do for marching season because we don’t accumulate the necessary seventy hours of class time. But it is the only time we’ll rehearse the pep band music, generally.)
Ø ALL pep band members are expected to perform at a minimum of TWO OUT OF EVERY THREE GAMES during the basketball season. If you are a first period enrollee, this is part of your class grade. For ALL members, it will affect your membership status when it comes to earning your letter or star – remember, to earn either your band letter or star, you must remain a member through Marching, Pep, and Symphonic seasons. This is the standard for pep band membership. ALSO, only members meeting this criteria will be allowed on the road trips during playoff season OR to any potential CSI games. Other students, alumni, AND patrons are welcome to perform with us if they’re prepared but must follow all of the same rules as the members at each performance.
Ø You will also need to wear a Jerome Pep Band shirt at each and every pep band performance. Any shirt from any year 2011 or previous is fine – they all have the same front logo with different back designs. The 2011 shirt can be purchased at your convenience BUT we want to get shirts ordered by the end of October (i.e., the 28th) so they can be here before the first home games on November 12th and 22nd. So, PLEASE give us a hand by telling us what you intend to order (again, if you have pep band shirt or shirts from previous years, those work as well). You cannot pick up or ‘borrow’ a shirt until it’s paid for, so please make plans accordingly. Just as we wouldn’t let you march without your Ambush uniform on, we can’t have you performing without your pep band uniform on. (All other articles of clothing are at your discretion.) Our logo this year is “It’s better to be in BAND with no LIFE than in LIFE with no BAND!”
Ø SHIRT COSTS will run as follows: T-shirt ($15)…. Polo shirt ($20)…Hooded sweatshirt ($30). You may order whatever combinations in whatever size you wish – often parents want to buy one for themselves as well. Realize that we usually have two and sometimes three possible games in a week, so allow for your family laundry pattern! How many shirts do you need to have? (And remember that previous season’s shirts are still perfectly usable!)
Ø HERE IS OUR CURRENT PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE FOR THE 2011-2012 SEASON:
o November 12, 22, and 30.
o December 3, 13, and 15.
o January 6, 7, 10, 13, 17, 18, 20, 24, 27
o February 3
o Possible girls’ playoff game dates are Jan 31, Feb 2, 4, 6, 7, and 9 (not all will happen)
o Possible boys’ playoff dates (again, not all will happen) are Feb 14, 16, 18, 20, 21, 23.
o State tournaments in Boise: Girls Feb 16-18, Boys Mar 1-3.
o We are waiting to hear from CSI about playing at a game or two for them as well.
o MOST GAME NIGHTS: you are expected to arrive by 6:30 p.m. – when we warm up and get ready to perform will depend on the speed of the freshman and JV games, but 6:30 is the earliest we should ever expect to have to be ready. (There are a couple of early-season Saturday games that may be 1 p.m. meet times instead – stay tuned.)
