This coming week The Watertown High School Wind Ensemble will perform in their final concert of the year. For the occasion, they have invited two special guest artists to come in and perform alongside the Wind Ensemble.  First is Dr. Giff Howarth, who will be performing the first movement of the Concerto for Marimba and Wind Ensemble by Ney Rosauro, as well as other solo works for the marimba.

Second is guitarist Steve Lester, a former Sackets Harbor resident and local teacher who will bring a beautiful guitar solo to life in Chaos Theory by James Bonney. This concerto for electric guitar and wind orchestra is a fusion of progressive/hard rock with classical sophistication; a stunning piece that the Wind Ensemble is eager to play and the audience will surely love!

 

 

The third annual Festival of Bands featuring the Watertown, Carthage and South Jefferson High School Wind Ensembles is coming February 17th, 2011. 

It is our privilege this year to have as our guest conductor, Dr. Mark Fonder 

 Mark Fonder, professor of music, is the conductor of the Ithaca College Concert Band and has been teaching conducting and instrumental music education courses at Ithaca College since 1989.  From 1994 to 2003, he was the Chairman of the Music Education Department.  He is active as a guest conductor, adjudicator, school music consultant, and clinician and has served in these capacities throughout the United States.  Internationally, he has guest conducted, given research presentations or adjudicated bands in Austria, Japan, Canada, China, Singapore, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
