Tanabata (The Seventh Night of July) - Itaru Sakai
In Japan, July the seventh is known as “Tanabata”. There is a legend that a young couple live separated by the Milky Way. Yet on this night, only once a year, they are allowed to meet. Festivals are held throughout Japan to celebrate their reunion. In this work, composer Itaru Sakai musically expresses this romantic legend linked to the mid-summer night sky. In the middle of the piece the voices of the man and the woman are represented by alto saxophone and euphonium solos.
This will be the last performance of the Wind Ensemble before they depart for their competition at Hershey Park.

 Spring Concert 2
May 14, 2007 7:00pm  WHS Auditorium
Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Girls/Mixed Choir
The success of our performance is directly connected to the audience that hears it! Come out and applaud these young musicians.

On April 27 & 28, 2007 over 40 band members will participate in the NYSSMA Solo Festival at Watertown High School.  These students chose to prepare a solo on a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument.

An adjudicator will rate each student based on the standards set by the New York State School Music Association.  Each student will receive written comments and a score from the judge.  Based on their scores, students may become eligible for the WHS Wind Ensemble, Bi-County Band, Area All State, NYSBDA Honor Band and for some, All State.
